Unfortunately, the solar industry has bad apples. The negative reviews by unhappy customers are not just media sensationalism, they are valid and should be addressed. The victims should be compensated and the damage corrected. Many solar companies have done more to deter people from getting solar than they have to advance it so the reputation of the industry has suffered. This is tragic and we must do better, but solar itself is not to blame. Widespread residential solar adoption is urgently necessary, so we can't throw the baby out with the bath water. There are also many solar companies doing everything right. Xsolaration was created to help you navigate the solar selection process. Follow our solar advocates recommendations to ensure your experience is positive.
The single most important thing you need to do is get involved in the process and stay informed. This requires you to ask lots of questions. The right solar company will be transparent and communicate with you throughout the process. Every question should be answered in a timely manner, and you should feel comfortable going forward at each phase. While scheduling appointments, negotiating and signing your contract, securing your permits, choosing your products, understanding operation and maintenance of your system, your solar company rep should be holding your hand, If you feel in the dark at any point, speak up, and expect to be heard.
If you don't get at least three quotes from different solar companies before signing then you don't have any idea what your options are. You can negotiate you cost if you make hem compete on price. Don't ever just accept the first offer or company . Not all solar companies are alike, in fact they can be very different. Be aware of how solar actually works and how much is required for your home before choosing the cheapest one. Due diligence to find business registration info and BBB ratings would be helpful as well, and always get everything in writing. Take pictures. Stay home and watch on your install day. Ask questions. Ask more questions.

The truth is not one of us knows what the future will bring, but the climate changes we are now experiencing are undeniable. One day we will not be around to undo our mistakes or reverse the consequences of our actions. Today is all we have. Considering the hopes and dreams we have for our children, the limitless love we have for our grandchildren, and the value of every innocent life yet to be born, should we not want for them every opportunity to thrive that we have had?
What harm is there in erring on the side of caution for their sake if it doesn't cost us anything at all to do it? Transitioning to solar energy at home is a choice that shows the future we care about them. Give them the gift of renewable energy now, because the world is changing fast. We cannot take for granted the privilege and prosperity of our lifetime by assuming it will never end.
One of themes of the human condition has always been the fact that there will be suffering in life. In this unpredictable and unstable landscape, much of it inherited from our own parents and grandparents, we must be forever vigilant and mindful to mitigate further damage our own actions add. Our kids are not prepared for suffering. We have not taught them to navigate climate change because none of us have been here before.
